April 2008

Steve Beam is my name and I want to invite you to my lecture, Magic With No Entertainment Value. Now you may be asking yourself why you should miss perfectly good reruns of Gilligan's Island just to see another magic lecture.

Well, for starters, this is my first time lecturing in the Pacific northwest. And, as editor and publisher of the underground sleight of hand journal The Trapdoor for fifteen years and author of the best-selling seven-volume Semi-Automatic Card Tricks series, I have a truckload of material available to share with you now that I know I'm competing with Ginger and Mary Ann.

The effects all include humorous presentations guaranteed to jumpstart your audiences like:

  • Three-Piece Combo – A triple location featuring eye candy with a purpose.

  • World Piece – Think of it as Paul Curry’s Out of this World without the baggage.

  • Card Compression - Cards shrivel up to nothing – no refills required.

  • Mortality – You’ll face down death – and learn to laugh in its face.

  • X-Change – Gratuitous double color change suitable for club work.

  • Archideck – How to build a killer card trick from scratch and inflict maximum brain crater damage on your target audience.

  • That’s just the beginning – there will be so much more. Believe me when I say that you’ll feel better attending the lecture than spending the rest of your life being fooled by its contents.

I guarantee that you'll see more usable, practical, and entertaining material in this one lecture than you garnered from your entire photocopy of Greater Magic. (Photocopies of Greater Magic will also be available at the lecture.) And remember my motto - less than three percent filler.

Sure, it's mostly card tricks – but you've long since outgrown the notion that it's the props that make the performer. You'll see how to make a deck of cards come alive – and more importantly, how to pack an entire evening's entertainment in your pocket.

And when it's all over, you can go home with your newfound performance material, grab some popcorn and a Coke, and punch up Gilligan's Island on your Betamax. Being a magician just doesn't get any better than this. I hope to see you there.

    Best,

    Steve Beam
